Contemporary Societies, Globalization, and Development

In the 19–21st centuries, development became one of the main objectives pursued by governments, civil movements, and political forces. However, what does "development" mean and how can it be measured? Who can and who should implement it? The course "Contemporary Societies, Globalization, and Development" offers a broad and contextualized overview of the evolution of the discourse of development and the diversity of contemporary approaches to it. Students will get acquainted with the development strategies put forward and implemented by different social forces of today, differences and confrontations between them, as well as learn to analyze the challenges and opportunities that globalization creates for different development strategies.
